The NANONET-Styria vision

"Styria must become a nationally and internationally acknowledged centre of nanotechnology by the end of the decade.”

Since its foundation in 2001, NANONET-Styria has been a cooperation and communication platform that sets out to coordinate and focus nanoscience and nanotechnology expertise and concepts in Styria:

This is accomplished by means of

  • strengthening scientific progress (basic research)

  • initialising projects in cooperation with the business world (applied research, industrial research)

  • implementing awareness-raising measures and transfer activities.

The aim is to convince public bodies of the meaningfulness of long-term support in the field of nanoscience and nanotechnology and, in cooperation, to elaborate plans for embedding nanotechnology in Styria on a lasting basis.

Measures

  • Consolidate existing expertise

  • Build up new expertise

  • Generate added economic and scientific value

  • Transfer basic knowledge into technologies, devices, etc.

  • Support supra-regional, national and international activities

  • Long-term technology transfer to small and medium-sized enterprises

  • Increase level of qualification

  • Widen awareness of the subject

An opportunity for Styria to achieve an excellent position.

Success depends on the long-term cooperation between scientific facilities and the business world under the NANONET-Styria nanotechnology initiative. The aim is to promote further development of the entire scientific and economic sphere and to coordinate activities with other national and international initiatives. NANONET-Styria is firmly committed to the Austrian Nano Initiative, which is funded by the Council for Research and Technology Development, in its capacity as an active regional network node.
